Open India - The idea is to create information about government and public institutions as transparent as possible while providing valuable insights and data along the way.

We believe that transparency is the foundation of a healthy democracy. By making government information accessible and understandable, we empower citizens to hold their representatives accountable.

What We're Building

We're working towards creating comprehensive tools and resources that will enable:

• Comprehensive MP Wealth Tracking: A database tracking the net worth of all Members of Parliament, updated regularly to monitor changes over time
• Election Declaration Comparison: Tools to easily compare declared assets from previous elections with current declarations, highlighting discrepancies
• Wealth Discrepancy Detection: Automated analysis to flag cases where declared assets don't align with official salaries
• Historical Data Archive: Complete historical records of MP declarations across multiple election cycles for trend analysis
• RTI Guidance & Templates: Step-by-step guidance and ready-to-use templates for filing Right to Information requests when wealth increases seem suspicious
• Public Education: Making all this information accessible and understandable for every citizen

Why This Matters

When public officials declare their assets during elections, citizens have a right to know if those assets are legitimate and how they've changed over time. If someone's wealth increases dramatically despite having a relatively low official salary, questions need to be asked.

Consider this scenario: An MP declares a certain net worth during the last election. Now, several years later, their declared wealth has increased significantly—far beyond what their official salary could account for. How did this happen? Is this legitimate? Can we file an RTI to investigate?

Through data analysis, RTI guidance, and transparent information access, we're building the tools to help citizens ask these questions—and get answers. This is how we ensure accountability and transparency in Indian democracy.
